ABOUT THE BOOK
Wit and wisdom are amongst the exclusive domains of Homo sapiens. While some animals do show signs of playfulness and responses that resemble laughter or humour, humans are the only species known to have complex, verbal humour. Wit and wisdom are the outcome of our superior and intricate mental faculties and communication abilities. Moreover, self-depreciation or the ability to laugh at oneself is a form a higher maturity – and generally disarms the others.
Two notes on accuracy: I kept the text exactly as printed, so “self-depreciation” (usually “self-deprecation”) and “a form a higher maturity” (probably missing “of”) are the book’s own wording, not transcription errors. If you’re using this for publication, you may want to flag those.
